HOI CHD Walk 2020 Fundraising Progress
Welcome to our inaugural event:
The Heart of Illinois Congenital Heart Defect
Walk Parade Event!!!
We were very hopeful to be presenting our first event on a stage but due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic we bring you our stage presentation through this video. Please enjoy our introduction from Dr. Marc Knepp and Dr. Mark Plunkett, the event co-chairs.
We are more than excited to share that we have surpassed our $60,000 goal! Your donations will support our patients and their families in the central Illinois community. Let me tell you a bit about the organizations that will benefit from your donation:
· OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois Congenital Heart Center:
Through 9 different locations in Illinois the team sees nearly 10,000 clinic visits each year. This specialized team sees all ages of patient born with congenital heart defects or acquiring heart problems in childhood. The funds given to the team will help with additional programs such as the new neurodevelopment program, transition program which helps teenagers become responsible for their own health as adults, and other educational tools.
· The Organization for Understanding Congenital Hearts (TOUCH):
They provide support and services for children and adults with heart defects as well as their parents and family members. Specifically, they provide a newsletter three times a year, a Parent’s Survival Kit/information packet prior to surgery, an annual CHD symposium, an annual fall picnic for CHD families, and award the Stella Wilson Memorial Scholarship. They also have a cabin at Wildlife Prairie Park that offers a getaway for patients and families with CHD.
· The Adult Congenital Heart Association:
The mission of ACHA is to improve and extend the lives of the millions born with heart defects through education, advocacy, and the promotion of research. They are a national organization that has supported our patients and families locally. They have set standards to assure that our adult patients with CHD are receiving the best possible care and recently accredited our local ACHD center.
Thank you to the team captains and team members that reached out to your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers for support! We are so excited that we reached our initial goal of $60k together!!
